CULTURAL UPDATE (2003-2004)

This year witnessed a storm of events each surpassing its predecessor when it came to popularity. With the commencement of the odd semester, not only did we start a new academic year but also began a novel trend.

The first attempt by the Students' Council, to provide relief from the drudgery of academics, was the Freshers' Welcome Bash to invite the freshers into the TSEC family. Held at the New Building Campus, the pulsating music coupled with the swaying crowd gave them a taste of the ever-rocking spirit of TSECites.

Next to kick-off was ?AVALANCHE 2003', our very own intra-collegiate cultural festival, spread over an entire week in mid-October, that got everyone "Snowballing Thru Monotony!" with a plethora of events on offer a platform to those talented & those wanting to shine in the dazzling limelight. In addition to the 3 categories of events, Performing Arts, Literary Arts & Fine Arts, this year marked the introduction of Fun Events and Informals.

The festivities continued in the even semester, with the Formal & Rose day, ending in the coronation of the Rose King & Rose Queen. Next in line was the Traditional Day, which had the dholwallas getting everyone dance to their beat.

Outside the walls of TSEC, TSECites continued to live up to their repute, winning with our superlative Fashion Shows at various inter-collegiate events hosted by colleges like Atharwa, D.J.Sanghvi, V.D.Patil, RAIT and SNDT. Also in the limelight was our Dance Contingent sweeping each and every inter-collegiate competition at T.M.Nair college, S.P.C.E., St. Francis, D.J.Sanghvi, SNDT & RAIT. And the icing on the cake was Sardar Patel college's event "SPACE" where we bagged the over-all trophy for the second time in a row, proving our excellence in all spheres!

Last, but certainly not the least, was the biggest glam-wham of the year, TSEC's very own inter-collegiate cultural extravaganza, "TRIFLES 2004", which defined the thresholds of exhilaration. A magnificent festival of humongous proportions, it had unprecedented participation from more than 30 engineering colleges and over 4000 spectators! Held at the Khar Gymkhana grounds, it hosted a wide array of events like Fashion Shows, Dances, Personality Contest, Singing events, Quizes & Debates, plus many Fine Art events, revealing a glittering display of style and talent.

This year saw the addition of the genre of Workshops like Salsa Dance, Photography and D.J.Mixing (held by the famous DJ Nasha) in Trifles. Adding a dash of showbiz was a galaxy of stars, including the presence of VJ Ramona, DJ Aqeel, Ashmit Patel, DJ Suketu, Tom Alter, etc. to name a few. And just for that sting in the tail was our Performance Nite, by DJ Nasha and the youth sensation ? AASMA, that left the three worlds screaming encore.

The overall shield of excellence was bagged by Don Bosco college. Also patrons to this event were corporate sponsors like Close-Up, Clinic All-Clear, along with Go 92.5 as the media associates.

In a nutshell, a fabulous year with a surfeit of breath-taking performances, daunting efforts and professionalism, to sum it all!
